GOG Troubleshooting QnA
This is due to both games writing to these files as if they were data files, a behavior that Windows Vista / 7 UAC considers suspicious. There are three possible fixes for this problem:
a. Right-click on the shortcut icon to the game, properties, advanced, run as administrator
b. Go to control panel, user accounts, change user account control settings and change the slider to never notify (not recommended)
c. Browse to the C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\ (or C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\ directory) move the folder "Starflight 1 and 2" to a location such as C:\ and create new shortcut icons.
2. The security code for Starflight 1 is still required.
The code is prompted from a player when they try to launch from starport. If they type the wrong code, they will receive the message "are you sure, better double check!" and then six days later the space police will pay them a visit and provide one final attempt to get the code right.The security code when launching from Starflight 2 does nothing - players may enter any number they wish and no adverse effects will occur.
Go to Start Menu\Programs\GOG.com\Starflight 1 and 2\Starflight 1\Tools and run "Starflight starcodes" to look up codes.
3. Starflight 1 - whenever any player closes the dosbox window or dies in the game their saved game is ruined. Also no save and restore function.
See here for a soluton.
4. The CPU timing is default settings for dropbox, which play very badly during certain timed events within the game such as flying in solar systems, combat, and possibly establishing communication.To fix this, edit these two files and go down to line 67:
C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Starflight 1 and 2\Starflight 1\dosboxSF1.conf
C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Starflight 1 and 2\Starflight 2\dosboxSF2.conf
cycles=max or auto
Ctrl-F11 / Ctrl-F12 change the speed within the game.
